Da Nang Food or famous foods to eat in Da Nang. I am a food lover. Wherever I go, the first thing I will type in Google is “must eat food in.. or best foods in…”. That’s why when we first moved to Da Nang, I asked my friends from Da Nang about the best places to eat authentic food. I often took a risk by eating foods from different places.

In the first few months, it was hard to try some dishes because there is a different cuisine within three parts of Vietnam (the North, the South and the Centre).

Coming from the Centre North of Vietnam, our cuisine is highly influenced by the Northern style. Which is not so hot like in the Centre or not so sweet like in the South.

Da Nang cuisine is the centre style. Foods are often hot (chilli)  here. People eat their meals with a basket of hot chilli on the table.

After many years of trying Da Nang Food. Here are three must-east food or best food that I recommend trying while you are visiting Da Nang.

The food and restaurants recommended are tested by many of my Western friends and my husband – an Aussie guy. So, don’t worry if you think you don’t want to take the risk of trying!

You might want to read the article: Places to Visit in Da Nang while you are here. Or you might wonder why there are so many big Buddha, then, The Big Buddha in Da Nang might be interesting to read.

1. Da Nang Food – Banh Trang Thit Heo Best Food in Da Nang

Banh Trang Thit Heo (Sliced Pork in Rice Paper Rolls) is my first recommendation for the best food in Da Nang.

This dish is a combination of tender boiled pork and special rice paper in the centre of Vietnam. Banh Trang (rice paper) from Quang Nam province is the best one to eat with this dish.

Similar to many other beautiful dishes of Vietnam, this specialty comes with herbs (e.g., lettuces, basils, sliced cucumber,  sliced green banana fruit, and coriander).

Before serving, the rice papers will be dipped into the water and put on the plate. Wet rice papers so you need a bit of skill to peel it out on your plate.

Then, you will add pork and herb on top of the rice paper, then roll things up. Finally, you will dip your roll with a special source (a special Da Nang fermented fish source).

Banh Trang Cuon Thit Heo – The Best Food in Da Nang

Note: In some restaurants, rice papers are fresh, it will be a mix of dry papers and fresh rice papers.

For me, I think this source makes the dish more special. The smell is a bit strong for some people. If so, you can ask for a normal fish source.

This source is a bit strong for my husband so he often asks for the normal fish source instead.

Now, try to practise some Vietnamese with this sentence if you want to order a normal fish source after you tried the fermented fish source.

Không nước mắm cá, vui lòng cho tôi nước mắm thường” – this means no fermented fish source, fish source, please.

If people don’t understand then it might be a good idea to show them this sentence.

3 Best Places to Eat Banh Trang Thit Heo in Da Nang

Over five years of living in Da Nang, there are three best places to eat Banh Trang Thit Heo:

Add: 35 Do Thuc Tinh Street, Cam Le District, Da Nang

This restaurant is located outside of the city centre. You can catch a taxi or a ‘Xe Om’ – a motorbike taxi to get there. Personally, I like this place as coming to this area. Rumours:

According to my staff, she said, originally, Banh Trang Thit Heo is from Quang Nam province next to Da Nang. Before 1996, Quang Nam and Da Nang used to be one province. After separated, Da Nang city is a popular destination for tourists. So, Da Nang has become well-known for this dish instead of Quang Nam province. Unsuperisingly, most Banh Trang Thit Heo restaurants in Da Nang advertise their special rice papers from Quang Nam.

2. Da Nang Food – Banh Xeo Best Food in Da Nang.

Banh Xeo (Crispy Pancake) is a famous dish and best food of Da Nang. This is a must-eat dish when you visit Da Nang. That’s why my Vietnamese friends always ask me where is the best place to eat Banh Xeo in Da Nang.

Travelling to a few countries and living in Australia, I can see that Vietnamese pancake is familiar to many people in Australia and around the world. However, the Western version is very different from the one in Vietnam.

Banh Xeo – Da Nang Crispy Pancake

The version of the Da Nang crispy pancake is tastier, more traditional and distinctive flavour. It make me wow when I first try this dish in Da Nang.

The crispy pancake in Da Nang is famous for its crispy and super-think layer made from rice flour.  The stuffing ingredients are shrimps, beansprouts, finely sliced pork, and chopped spring onions.

In Vietnam, we go to the market every morning to buy fresh food for the day. The ingredients of the pancake are fresh from the local market. This makes the dish famous for its taste. Again the source is the one that makes the difference for the famous crispy pancake in Da Nang.

Eat crispy pancake it just comes out to your table 😀

Tips: This Da Nang crispy pancake food is the tastiest when it is hot and crispy meaning it comes right out of the pan.

3. Da Nang Food – My Quang Best Food in Da Nang

Mi Quang (Vietnamese Turmeric Noodle) is one of the best food in Da Nang. Even though this dish originates from Quang Nam province, Da Nang is renowned for Vietnamese people.

This is a must-eat dish for Vietnamese tourists once they visit the beach city. Mi Quang is a mix of noodle soup and salad. The soup has a yellow colour from turmeric and chicken bone stock. It is served with special Quang rice noodles and several meat toppings varying from shrimps, frog, chicken, and pork.

Mi Quang with pork and shrimp toppings

It is always a plate full of fresh herbs on the table for you. For a better taste, I often add a slice of lime or lemon and a bit of chilly source.

Many places will serve this dish in Da Nang. However, here are two best places which are authentic cuisine of Da Nang:

Quan Mi Quang Thi

Tips for this dish:

This is a cold dish so if you prefer a hot one ask for a really hot soup and eat them quick once the soup is on the table.

While you are walking around Da Nang, you will see this dish everywhere. You can try one first then if you want to try the authentic dish, the above two places would be the best places to eat.
